What building the wrong thing costs now
Six figures
Spent in a matter of weeks, not months.
A year of runway
Gone chasing a feature nobody asked for.
The wrong team focus
Pointed at the wrong problem while the real one waits.
Building fast doesn’t remove that risk — it just means you find out sooner, after the money’s gone.
Where clients bring me in
Clients usually arrive through one of these situations. Turning an established business into software is the core of my work.
Turn operations or expertise into software
You have a working service or operations business. Important work still lives in spreadsheets, manual handoffs, or people's heads, and you want to turn it into an internal tool or customer product.
- What should become software
- What to build first
- What a realistic build should cost
- Whether the development plan is sound
- One senior person’s judgment is the process
- Every client feels like a special case
- You’ve said “we should build a tool for this” more than once
- A dev shop asked what to build, and you realized you could describe the pain but not the product
A Business-to-Software direction the owner can fund and the team can execute.
Get a Free Product TeardownFix product direction
Your team is already building, but you cannot tell whether the scope, priorities, or commercial case are sound.
- What to continue
- What to stop
- What to test before more development
- Which customer or use case matters first
- How the work connects to revenue, retention, cost savings, or strategic value
A decision map for what the team should build next and why.
Carry product direction through execution
You need someone senior to own product decisions while the team builds, the company hires, or the product changes.
- Product strategy and roadmap
- Product operating model and team direction
- Pricing and commercial decisions
- Executive decision-making
- Execution oversight
Senior product judgment and decision ownership from strategy through execution.
This is my situationI am independent of the team doing the build. My job is to judge what the business needs, not to sell you more development.
Senior product judgment backed by operating experience.
From a rough idea to a pilot-ready US product
During a six-month CPO engagement, I led field research in New York, Miami, and Houston, then translated the findings into product strategy, business model, pricing, roadmap, and core workflows.
I also helped build the product organization, set up team execution, negotiated with software partners, and created working prototypes that made the direction tangible for nontechnical founders and the delivery team.
A four-week discovery system used more than 70 times
At Vega IT, I created a repeatable discovery method that helped teams connect business decisions, customer evidence, technical feasibility, and software scope before delivery began.
It was used more than 70 times and helped the company move toward larger end-to-end engagements.
From six months and £500K per product line to two or three days
I helped redesign how a specialty insurance company created new product lines.
Each product line had previously been estimated at approximately six months and £500,000. A reusable platform reduced the work to two or three days, with no additional development investment required for each new product line.
What clients and product leaders say
“Her approach was thorough and grounded. From the questions she asked, it was clear she was trying to truly understand the business, and that led to a final result I considered very high quality. The collaboration felt easy even though many of the concepts were new to me.”
“She helped me narrow my focus to a few things that actually mattered, build the core features first, and stop chasing perfection and detail before the foundation was there. It's an investment that changes your business direction.”
“Nikolina stands out as a strong communicator, quick to grasp new business domains, and highly skilled at managing complex stakeholder environments. She has a sharp product mindset and consistently delivers roadmaps that align with business goals and drive results. I'd jump at the chance to work with her again.”
“Since our first project, I've known Nikolina is not just another Product Manager. Her product and project discovery processes changed the company's direction to end to end services. This approach led to bigger deals and improved project success rates.”
See the whole decision before committing the next move.
I examine the three parts that determine whether a product or software investment will work: the business behind it, the system being designed, and the conditions required to execute it.
The depth changes with each engagement. The aim stays the same: turn uncertainty into a small number of decisions the business and team can act on.
If AI genuinely fits, I will show you where it belongs and what it should cost.
Business and vision
Clarify the problem worth solving, the intended direction, how value is created, and whether the economics justify the investment.
Product, process, and people
Clarify what should be built, changed, or left alone, how work moves through the product, who uses it, and where human judgment must remain.
Execution
Determine what happens first, who owns each decision, what the work should cost, and how delivery risk will be controlled.
This is not a rigid sequence. It keeps business viability, product direction, and execution reality inside the same decision.
Start with the decision that needs to be made.
Fit conversation
A 20-minute call to understand the situation, urgency, investment context, and whether I am the right person to help.
Focused diagnostic
Most engagements begin with a Business-to-Software Audit. When a product already exists, the scope becomes a Product Direction Audit. The diagnostic clarifies the business case, product scope, priorities, cost expectations, risks, and the sequence for execution.
Execution and continuity
Clients can continue through a product and management consulting retainer, fractional product leadership, or advisory support while the team executes.
Some clients take the direction forward internally. Others keep me involved while the team executes.
You leave with the decision, the sequence of work, and clear ownership for what happens next.
Nikolina Belic, Strategist + Builder
My first product failed when I was 22, because we built it before proving the business. I’ve worked backward from that mistake for 11 years, across 90+ companies and 100+ products.
I’m most useful when a business has real operating expertise but isn’t sure what should become software, or already has a team building without a clear commercial direction. I test the business case, define what to build first, work through pricing and cost, and stay close enough to execution to see whether the plan holds.
I advise founders and their teams through the decisions as we work, so the judgment stays with them — not just with me.
